An open letter to the Kansas City Chiefs

Dear Clark Hunt, Carl Peterson, Herm the Worm and the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs,

Seriously? SERIOUSLY? How much grief have you put me through in the 26 years I've been alive? You've toyed with my emotions, tugged at my heartstrings and then brutally clipped them and left me defeated, battered and saddened. Your attempts at recruiting are laughable, you let valuable players slip through the cracks, and year after year, you fail to deliver even the faintest hope of a play-off victory.

Yet I continue to love you and cherish you and bleed red and gold. I come to see you in the cold, the snow, the rain, the heat. I pay your ridiculous parking fees and sip from your glasses of $5 soda, not to mention your alcohol-free margaritas that set me back $7 or more a pop.

I was raised a Chiefs fan. Heck, I was born a Chiefs fan. Sundays were religion with my dad, and not because we went to church -- instead, we worshipped at the altar of the Kansas City Chiefs, and, in time, grew immune to his explosive outbursts of rage at the latest ridiculous penalty or JV mistake.

Still, every fall, I brim with hope at the promise of a new season, a clean slate, a chance to make it to The Big Show.

And now THIS. You cheap, cheap sell-outs. How dare you besmirch the name of the greatest football stadium in the nation? Do you seriously expect me to hold a stadium named after some blood-sucking corporate entity in the same esteem as the hallowed Arrowhead? And your compromise is to keep the original name somewhere in the title. Super. I can't wait until I attend my first game at McDonald's Double Cheeseburger Arrowhead Stadium.

For shame, Chiefs. How much more can you take and, in return, not expect to give? Clearly, none of you bleed the pure, brilliant red that paints Kansas City each and every season--instead, you drip the blackened green of greed.

Cheers to the home of the SSSSEEEELLLLL-OUTS.

Katy

Good post... unfortunately, since Lamar died, we're probably going to continue to see more and more of this sort of thing.

For an organization with some of the best fans in the country (in any sport), it seems like the Chiefs tend to take us for granted... how else can you explain the perpetual mediocrity of this team? Sure, sometimes we sneak in to the playoffs, but when was the last time the Chiefs were legitimate Super Bowl contenders? I can't remember, was I even alive?

But of course, as you said, the organization's management is more concerned with money than with winning games.
